- I think that in general if plus w women dressed with as much care as plus w of color dress..it would be about the same...but we w chicks are totally out dressed & out styled by our shaded shaded..a generalization, I know..but.speaking from my own experience..I am often in awe of the beautifully turned out..women of color I meet.... I stand there in sandals and jeans..thinking, wow..I should get gussy up more often. I am inspired to look better ...thanks blue jeans

Is It More Acceptable for Women of Color
- I am an Afro-native American woman, and men who like curvy women are attracted to me. I have it like men who prefer straight-sized women are attracted MORE to my bra-size.

Men's Preferences
- In my experience as a 20-sized white woman, it seems true that it's less acceptable to be a plus-sized white women, especially when dealing with men. Many black men seem to look at me and approach me with a demeanor that makes me feel desirably-sized. Whereas white men always seem to approach the trimmest women. The white guys look me up and down like they're looking at a piece of meat, and when they don't pursue any (or much) conversation with me, I feel so insulted. That's really what has happened to me!

Beauty ideals
- In the case of body shape acceptance, African American women are the most positive. However, that is only part of the experience. Mainstream feminine beauty ideals are still very tied to the appearance of European American women (skin color, hair texture, and facial features). The non- body shape/size related body esteem issues can be more relevant to women of color, including Asian and Latina Americans. “Women of color” is also very broad. There is certainly more acceptance of larger body size in the African American community; this is generally not the case in the Asian/ Asian American community. I am less sure about the Latina community.
