Get to know what's what!

By , About.com Guide

This User Answers Collection is the perfect combination of fun and whimsy. Join the crowd and get talking about all sorts of fun plus-size stuff, from jackets to modeling. It can be hard to find user answers on the site if you don't look carefully, but this guide should help you locate what you wanted.

1. Plus-Size Fashion Mistakes

Do you have any fashion mistakes that you've committed in the past year or so? I feel like we can, at the very minimum, look back and say that perhaps one of our favorite pieces (be they new, old, thrifted, or whatever) weren't our best attempt. I frequently get interested in pieces that look good on the rack, but that aren’t flattering on my body type – pretty much anything tunic-like or baggy-waisted will interest me, but then I will realize that I look terrible in it.

Belting can solve some problems, but that doesn’t mean the piece looks great. This is a common problem, probably one that we have all complained about from time to time. Are we all attracted to pieces that aren’t necessarily the most flattering?

2. Is There Anything You Won't Wear?

I have pieces I won’t wear, simply for aesthetic reasons. I won’t wear short skirts and I don’t particularly like shorts. I have an affinity for ringer tees, but they aren’t particularly flattering on me. I won’t wear faux-wrap dresses, and I am not a fan of synthetic fibers. Give me made-in-America pieces any day, even if they are layering basics.

3. Do You Buy Expensive Plus Clothes?

How much are you willing to spend on your wardrobe? It’s a tricky question. As a frugal person, I try to save and only buy the basics…but I have managed to move beyond buying those cheap fixes that only seem like a good deal. While it might seem silly to try to invest when you don’t have a lot of money, buying one killer skirt is so much better than buying a lot of junk. Bite the bullet and invest in the best, or at least balance with one expensive piece and one inexpensive piece… or better yet, sew your own and add all the details of a pricey item.

4. What Do You Love About You?

What do you love about yourself? I like my hands (and I even used to like my feet), my waist, my perseverance, and my general demeanor. As a woman who’s struggled accepting that she won’t be small-framed, I can proudly say that I also appreciate my body image.

5. What's Your Favorite Fashion Tip?

My favorite fashion tip is to know your “color.” A lot of people don’t understand their coloring and the ones that only wear black might be washing themselves out. I have never been able to tell what colors look good on me, so now I pay attention to the compliments people pay me. If you make a mental note about what outfits are complimented most frequently, then you will have a starting point, too. Even though I don’t buy it often, for example, I often receive compliments when I wear pink. That is a first step.

6. What Would You Change About Yourself?

This might seem like a negative detail, but it isn’t. Plenty of people improve themselves by acknowledging a single, changeable thing about themselves that they would like to address. I wouldn’t focus on the size of my ankles, for example, but I would possibly consider a change to my hair.
