Plus-Size Etsy Finds - December, Part II

Vintage Plus-Size Picks

By , About.com Guide

It's time to get back to the vintage that we love! I am looking at shifts, gowns, party dresses, and more -- all of which suit the plus crowd. If you have style, you can find a way to work one of these dresses into your wardrobe -- and if you don't have style, you still might want to try!

1. Gray Waitress Dress

(44-38-48) This unusual dress is very utilitarian, with its gray color, red piping, and simple waistline. The seller says that this piece reminds her of a diner waitress dress, and I can understand why! It is easy care at 60/40 cotton-poly, and it features the cutest poufy sleeves and collar. Actually, this dress looks a little prim to be a waitress uniform -- it almost reminds me of what a nurse wears.

2. Deadstock 1950s Dress

(50-41-free) This cute dress is very rare: it's actually a deadstock dress, meaning that it was never worn nor sold when it was brand new, and then it got stored in mint condition. Yay! This dress would be perfect for a winter getaway cruise or a trip to the tropics, but it's also so nice that I wouldn't fault you for simply storing it away for next summer. This size is very rare, and in such good condition? Even more difficult to source.

3. Black-and-White Polka Dot Dress

Do you love pussy bow and secretary blouses? Here's a cute dress that you'll probably fall in love with, then! This plus-size dress in black-and-white (3XL) has a stretchy, comfortable waist and is meant to be belted. The dress features tiny black buttons up the bodice front and is easy-care -- tumble dry low. I would love to see this dress worn with kitten heels and a slim headband, or perhaps a headscarf.

4. Black Crepe Dress

(47-36-46) This crepe dress is another black beauty for you to covet. This plus-size dress has a white-dotted yoke around the neckline and a deep notch, and the skirt is curve-conscious without being conspicuous. This dress, which has hourglass shaping and darts at the skirt and bodice, is in great condition. The 3/4 length sleeves are probably the best detail on this whole dress, and one that I personally covet.

5. Stevie Nicks Dress

(46-38-62) This dress on Etsy looks like something Stevie Nicks would want to wear. It features sheer sleeves and a surplice cut, and it has a few tiny areas of concern (nothing major). Grab your best boots and pair them with this ultra-slinky black dress that fits a modern-day 18/20. Little ruffles along the neckline add some extra oomph!

6. Mod Dress

(42-36-49) Talk about a bright, modern dress. This floral dress is a-line and sleeveless, with a v-neck and a back zipper. Darted and in a soft poly-cotton blend fabric, the floral print reminds the seller of a Monet painting -- me, too! This dress reads to me as a handmade dress, since it didn't have tags.

7. Uncut Plus Pattern

(48-40.5-50) If you have ever tried to find original plus-size patterns, then you know how hard it is to find the perfect dress pattern in a plus-size. I don't think I have even seen one from the 1970s that is uncut, and in such generous sizing. It is called a size "44," but you can easily see the measurements to compare. The dress itself has sweet tabs along the waist and a notched collar.

8. Holiday Dress, 1960s

Get merry for the holidays in this fun dress on Etsy!
