If the wedding is held after 6 p.m., you can dress for evening in cocktail dresses and more formal gowns.

Tips and Tricks for Evening Weddings:

  • Informal: Wear a cocktail, or "after five" dress. Look for one that ranges from below the knee to tea length, about two inches above the ankle.

  • Semi-Formal: Choose a conservative cocktail dress. Chiffon, silk, and satin are all good choices for semi-formal gowns.

  • Formal or Black Tie: Wear a dressy cocktail gown with a bit of a flounce, or a longer formal gown.

  • White Tie: Go all out with a long dress, gorgeous accessories, a stole or wrap, and stunning heels. The gown pictured, by Calito on Alight.com, would look great with a stole and gems. Buy Direct

Tip: Remember that sleeveless gowns are still an option for the plus-size figure. Weddings are the perfect time to incorporate wraps, shrugs, and lightweight shawls into your wardrobe.
