The Little Guide to Vintage Shopping Review

Taking a Look at What It Offers Plus Women

By , About.com Guide

Are you a plus woman who is looking for a few tips on vintage shopping? I recently checked out The Little Guide to Vintage Shopping, which is very fun to read, and a handy little guide of sorts for newbies to the vintage shopping world to keep on their bookshelves, store by their computers, or take with them when they head out to buy something vintage-y and cool.

Plus-Size Considerations

Even though this book is not designated for plus-size women, that doesn't mean it can't be used. Because it covers the basics, it's essentially a getting-to-know-you guide with tips on getting the best buy, identifying eras, and tailoring. It is certainly not size-centric, which means that you won't see mentions to size 2s and looking skinny on every page. This book takes a neutral stance on sizing that makes it quite comfortable and handy for the plus-sized woman to read and utilize.

Quality

The book itself feels good in your hand, which is great--it makes you want to carry it around more! The cover is high quality and canvas-y, and the book contains those great shots of funky vintage fabrics as well as prime examples of great thrift store finds and labeling. The colors are bright and crisp, and the font is not too small for a book of its size.

Content

The Little Guide to Vintage Shopping is a basics sort of book. It best suits beginners starting out on the vintage trail, but even a seasoned vintage hunter like myself appreciates a new primer for reference. Expect chapters on sizing, styling, where to shop, and care notes, as well as interesting notes on "shopping style" and your "attack" when you do make it in the shops. This book also covers shopping online.
