Sydney's Closet Review

One Option for Plus-Size Formalwear

By Meieli Sawyer, About.com

Sydney's Closet is one of my favorite places to pick up plus pieces in a variety of sizes and styles. Although we have been seeing fantastic new items in the way of our usual casual and activewear, formal items feel like they're lacking no matter where you go. At least, before I ran into Sydney's Closet.

Selection

A good place to swing by is their “Plus-Size Ball Gown” spot. You'll be treated to a great group of dresses in lots of different colors and styles: dove gray for the belle of the ball, polka-dotted for the retro gals, and solid-colored princess cut gowns for the classic woman.

Choose from couture-styled dresses with elaborate trains and skirts: there's a lot of detail for the price. Many of the dresses have embroidered bodices and embellished areas that rival custom items.

Quality

Sydney's Closet's offers a variety of shopping selections to help you choose the most flattering fit for your frame. What makes shopping at Sydney's a quality experience is the dedication to informing customers. You can read “Fit Tips” and a “Shopping Guide Index” alongside measurement charts and FAQs.

Sizes

Each dress is available in a different grouping of sizes, so you'll have to shop around-- a lot. But you'll be rewarded with lots of surprises if you dedicate some time to looking around. I found some dresses available just in size 14, others up to 22, and some up to size 30/32.

Pricing

I was disappointed that an extra charge applies for some sizes, although the fabric used to construct these dresses can be relatively expensive. You can find dresses on sale at $150.00 and up, which is great for prom goers and cocktail party attendees.
