Q: Do you have any tips for plus-size shoppers who want to try out eShakti?

A: Some tips:

  • Please try and enter as accurate a size information as possible. And if you are ordering a custom size, if possible get someone else to measure you since measuring oneself is very difficult and errors are possible.
  • You can order anything in our store and we will give it to you; we will never say, sorry, we don't carry that size.
  • When you place a repeat order, you should expect the fit and fall to be better than the first time, since we would know your size and shape better based on your feedback the first time around.
  • Give us feedback on how we did, particularly on size, which will make us serve you better.
  • Don't worry unduly about getting it wrong; we have a no-questions-money-back guarantee even for custom clothes and returns are easy to our Seattle office. Just return it and if you tell us what was wrong and order again, now or later, we will remember and do better for you.
  • Write to us if you wish to get our help in terms of what to choose; we can offer you email-based support and design consultancy based on what you tell us and combine it with what we have online.
  • This is a good time to shop at eShakti since we have upped our loyalty discount from 10% to 15% for the month of October. So you save 15% this month. For new customers, do use the $15 registration bonus that we offer.
  • Q: Do you have anything exciting coming up for eShakti in the future?

A: We have beautiful lines in drapey silks, soft cottons and cotton/linens coming in. And we plan to increase our selections of skirts and dresses. We've just launched a line of jackets in quilted cotton and linen and embroidered wool. Expect more caftans since they are very popular as comfortable, chic lounge-wear that you can entertain in at home. I think our scarves and shawls are something to look out for since they have unusual motifs and work. And we mean to give some great jewelry pieces soon.

eShakti's success in the States seems to be a shoo-in, but it looks like they might be expanding their reach while bringing things closer to home--simultaneously. With a strong market and a growing Indian economy, customers with stronger purchasing power might just find their way to this label. As B.G. noted, Westernized clothes are still gaining momentum in smaller cities, and pieces developed from Indian garments are most likely to catch on first. In other words: let's shop right now while there's less competition!

    Thank you, B.G. Krishnan!
