5 Ways to Get Eco-Friendly

You Can Still Be Eco-Conscious from Size 14 and Up

By Meieli Sawyer, About.com

It's no secret that eco-friendly designs haven't really hit home for those of us who wear sizes 14-32 and beyond. My searches have turned up few options, and among those, there's very little that I would consider wearing. I have a feeling that I'm not alone, so here's how to inject green plus style into your wardrobe.

1. Grab a Bag

Purses, totes, and handy carry-alls are one way to define your green style. Instead of a fruitless search for things that fit, try browsing eco-friendly bags that complement your personal look. If you spend your time finding this season's bag, you'll be able to choose something flattering and different.

2. Do Your Research

Do you have any cool friends who seem to be plugged into the green fashion scene? It never hurts to ask for suggestions. While I've had few leads so far, green fashion has really exploded over the past two years, and hopefully our side will start catching up.

3. Get Creative

Maybe you can't find a gorgeous sweater for the chilly seasons-- but you want to add something eco to your outfit. Instead of grumbling like I was, consider wraps and other "non-sized" items. Pashminas and shawls, here we come.

4. Browse the Unexpected

Footwear is one area that's definitely ignored in eco-conscious styles. Can't find a dress, already have a bag? This is your next stop. Look for casual at-home flats and slippers if you love your pumps.

5. Go for the Independent

Etsy styles are a good way to hunt down your organic cotton pieces. Take a little time to do your research and find those who do eco-conscious styles made to order. It's worth it.
