7 Plus Fall Fashion Trends

By , About.com Guide

Looking for stylish fall pieces that will look great on your shape? I've been inspired by quite a few runway looks, and I know that there's a way that we can channel the same in sizes 14+.

1. Festive Plaid

Intimidated by plaid? Join the club! Thankfully you can choose plaid in the form of a flat, a bag, or a hair accessory is you don't dare wear it all over. Another fashionable option for fall 2008 is to choose a plaid swing coat in a slightly cropped shape.

2. Flapper

Get dresses with a little more romantic detail this fall. Grab something with sequins, with a slinky shirt, or with a dropped waist to look like an updated '20s gal with a fun agenda and a carefree spirit. Try matching it with a feathered hair accessory for the full effect.

3. Slouchy Knits

Knits in cashmere and cables are oversized and comfortable this fall. Instead of choosing something shapeless and unflattering, consider sweater tunics that tie at the waist to add shape. Anything bulky can be hard to pull off, but small details can make these pieces work.

4. Blooms

Flowers are a great way to accessorize for a trendy touch. Try a simple brooch or rosette-trimmed top for maximum impact-- and minimal effort.

5. Western

I blame my love of Western on my penchant for fringe, but you don't need to go there. Instead, hunt down shaped plaid shirts to combine two trends in one. If you're more on the daring side, follow my lead and get a pair of fringed boots for fall.

6. The Color "Rust"

Not quite orange and not quite brown, this is a good choice for those of us who can't wear a specific trendy "silhouette." Take your pick of dresses, skirts, or sexy tops in this choice fall hue. If you aren't daring in the way of color, there are always these boots (back) in a lovely rusty brown for fall.

7. Classic Gowns

Pieces with a nipped-in waist that show off your curvy figure are welcome in my book. Apple shapes can look for dresses with a higher waistline, and women with an hourglass figure can go for wrap pieces instead.
