I jumped at the chance to talk to Rochelle Behrens, a fairly new designer who currently offers classic shirts specifically designed to beat "the gape," that annoying see-through spot many of us get in between buttons at the bust of button-down work shirts.

Q: Can you tell me how this all started?
A: I'm approaching this as a frustrated customer. You always want to look your best [...] so I understand what it takes to function as a professional. It's about looking good, feeling good.
Q: How do you approach femininity for a professional environment?
A: I don't like things that are girly. When there are ruffles [in my collection], they are strong [and] linear. I want to take the concept, the idea that the right shirt can take you anywhere.
Q: Can a potential shopper contact you if a specific size is sold out?
A: Yes! Anyone can request sizes if they are sold out over time: info@rochellebehrens.com.
Q: Can you describe your target customer?
A: To be honest, it's something that I am still working on. [...] But it really targets all women, no matter what age.
Q: Is there anything you'd like to say to About Plus-Size Fashion readers?
A: Style transcends all sizes. Classic pieces are the best for everything [...] It's the best way to look chic with very little.
During our conversation, Rochelle also had me some styling suggestions for the classic white shirt she sells at Rochelle Behrens. One of my favorite options is perfect for summer and winter getaways: purchase one of these button-down shirts in a size up or two for a blousy look, and wear it as a cover-up! Doesn't that sound divine?
