How to Get a Sex and the City Look, No Matter What Your Size

Stylish, Confident, and Sexy

By Meieli Sawyer, About.com

Looking forward to Sex and the City? Me too. If you're feeling inspired to rock a new look in the style of these fashion plates, you're not alone. Even though we're all a little more luscious than the sizes on SATC, we can still steal their style.

1. Busty Tops

This peasant style top bares the shoulders but doesn't give away much else. If you're looking for a top that's great for sunning, modern, and bright, this is a great choice.

2. Shapely Necklines

All of the girls have looks stocked in their wardrobe that are slightly unusual. Even Charlotte, who loves her prim little dresses, wears dresses with a deep neckline from time to time, or a pretty gown tied up with slim straps. Go for it!

3. Wedge Heels

High heels are the Sex and the City way, but it can be hard to put all your weight onto stilettos. I like to wear wedges in cool designs that let me balance my weight a bit better.

4. Sweet Sundresses

Charlotte and Carrie love to wear sundresses during the summer, so look for ones in bright, bold florals that stand out amongst the crowd. This one has another type of kitsch pattern--the polka dot! Try these on with white gloves or a pearl necklace for the full effect.

5. Unusual Hemlines

These scarf/handkerchief hemlines are stunning and carefree-- can't you imagine Carrie wearing an unusual top with asymmetrical details? You can wear this one over a swimsuit in the summer, or under a blazer when you're headed out. I have a feeling that Carrie would choose a little hat to go with it.

6. Clinging Modals

Samantha always wears gorgeous fabrics that show off her shape, and they aren't the usual stiff fabrics. Instead, Samantha embraces more modern materials with a little bit of shape in brighter colors like lime, blue, pink, and orange. Try out Kiyonna's clinging rayon/spandex tops with slim-line capris and wedge heels.

7. Slim Trousers

Miranda loves to wear trousers, being a working mom and all. Instead of wide-legged pants, you can wear slimmer trousers with a longer tunic top and wedges. It's definitely a "slim-maker" too, if you have an apple-shaped frame.

8. Little Hats

Carrie's hats are incredible-- did you see what Sarah Jessica Parker wore to the London premiere of Sex and the City? Her bird headpiece might be a bit much, but you can try on a veiled piece or a wide headband as a compromise.

9. Dramatic Shades

Sunglasses do make their way onto the set. Choose a wide pair in a bright color for added drama to any ensemble.

10. Sophisticated One-Pieces

A one-piece swimsuit has a place on the SATC set and in your closet as well. Choose one in high-glamor fabric like a metallic or a bright solid color. Be sure to show some cleavage with this swimsuit, just like Samantha makes the most of her assets.
