Trends for the Season

By , About.com Guide

With a recent discovery of a great jewelry plus-size resource for plus women, I decided to delve a little deeper into the jewelry trends this season. If you're a plus woman and your necklaces and bracelets barely fit (or don't anymore), you can always find plus-size alternatives that are right on trend.

1. Large Floral Anything

Chunky necklaces, big rings, and brooches in plastic, metal, enamel, or silk are all extremely trendy this season. Since they dress up plain fabrics (and we usually have a lot of those tucked away), they're one of the best investments of the season. Double- and triple-strand retro necklaces are a great pick.

2. Egyptian Elements

Looking for something a little heavier to weigh down lightweight fabrics like silk and fine-spun cotton? Egyptian bib necklaces are absolutely great, and I found one on a plus-size site (listed in "Elsewhere on the Web") with chunky jewels and colorful accents... and it's on sale. This is also a nice pick for times when you want to cover up a plunging necklace a little.

3. Multiple-Strand Chains

Anything with a chain or layers of chains is all right in our plus-size book! Look for gold or silver chains that flatter your skin tone and come with a special floral accent at the side to dress things up. To combine two trends, get a chain with a few brightly colored beads mixed in for style.

4. White Jewelry

Need to brighten up a very dark outfit? White jewelry is an excellent choice, and it's a forgiving trend, too. A pair of pearl earrings can match with this trend just as easily as a long white-bead necklace can, and this is a nice trend to work into classic ensembles.

5. Lucite

Want to wear a substantial bracelet or necklace, but you feel like it's way too chunky for your silhouette? See-thru Lucite in blocky accessories gives the effect you want, but still seems light against patterns and dressy items. Cuffs, dressy necklaces, and beaded necklaces are all great.

6. Costume Jewelry

Chunky cockatil rings are a great pick, and they look great in geometric designs, smooth enamels, and vintage-inspired styles. Add a lot of color to your outfit with just a step or two, and add glamour to a simple shift dress when you have to go out.
