I recently got an email from a reader who's tired of shopping online and fighting traffic to go to specialty stores in Manhattan. As a 38J, will she have any luck finding bras at the places she's targeting?
"S" writes:
"Is there a bra manufacturer that sells larger cup bras retail in regular stores like K-Mart, Target or Macy's. I haven't been able to wear a Playtex 18 hour bra since I gained weight and now that I lost it, they don't fit right because I now wear a 38J bra in Goddess. But that also means I have to comb the internet for sales or go to a specialty store, which you guessed is not in my neighborhood, so it tacks on additional hours travel time with the subway mess during the weekends in Manhattan. Any suggestions?"
First, a caveat: the bras found at many larger chain stores will not compete with specialty-store bras in terms of quality. Goddess is amazing, and I recommend sticking with what works. However, if you are looking for closer-to-home options, I recommend hunting down a bra from Just My Size in 38J. JMS is carried in Walmart, Kmart, Meijer, and Family Dollar, and they do have bras available in 38J. Shopping online at Just My Size can save you some money, though: they are currently having a "buy 2, get one free" sale.
Macy's also carries Goddess bras in limited colors, but my in-store search didn't prove fruitful. You'd have to make an in-store order or shop online to grab these two styles at Macy's, S!
If Goddess is a label you like, I might stick to online shopping and try to maximize savings whenever possible. For example, Lauren Silva offers 15% off to new Twitter followers and has flat-rate $5 shipping. The online shop has bras in 38J not just from Goddess, but from Freya, Panache, and Elomi. Prices are marked down regularly and start at just $31 for a Goddess bra in 38J.
Happy Hunting, S!
