Plus-Size Model at Simply Be

Do you shop at Simply Be, now that they are available in the United States? I received an interesting comment about SimplyBe.com that I thought I should share with you, so that I can get your experiences about shopping there--and shipping!

"Just a note to let everyone know I ordered Simply Be jeans and they were shipped on Dec. 10. I still do not have them! I keep calling and asking for another pair and they keep assuring me they are in the mail. They claim because they have to ship USPS, there is no way to track the package.

I hope they are nice. I'm still waiting and not sure I will shop with them again after this experience!"

Have you had a similar experience lately? For example, I can track my packages sent by ASOS, which arrive via USPS, so there should be a workaround.

I ordered a single item on 12/23/2010, supposedly, it wasn’t shipped until 1/2/2011 and today 10+ days later it still hasn’t arrived. I called and again was told that USPS can’t be tracked and that an item can take 10 – 16 days from the date it’s shipped. I was excited as they have a beautiful and inexpensive selection of plus size lingerie, but I doubt that I will ever shop there again after this experience!!!

It is possible that there were major delays coz of snow across Europe and some packages got misplaced. I sent a friend of mine a Christmas card in the Netherlands over a month ago and she only just got it.

There are a couple of reasons you may be experiencing a hold-up:

After the ink jet bombing plot, all parcels being sent have to go via cargo planes and boats as opposed to commercial airlines. When they reach the US they are now subject to increased security checks by Border Protection agents.

Further to this, disruption has also been caused by poor weather over the holiday period – for example snowstorms in New York where some of our deliveries come in to.

We are currently looking, in conjunction with Royal Mail, at streamlining our processes to shorten delivery times to the US. If we added tracking it would increase costs, but we are constantly evaluating new delivery options to try and make improvements.

Phew! That was quite an essay!

I had a similar shipping problem in late August. I ordered a dress to wear to my brother’s wedding. After a week & a half I called customer service & was told that everything ships via USPS & there’s no way to track the package. The customer service agent told me, in a rather snotty tone, that I should’ve allowed up to 3 weeks for the dress to come in. I ended up buying another dress to wear & returned the SimplyBe dress because it arrived late. On top of that – they charged me a fee for the return. I will never use SimplyBe again! The comments left by their rep is nothing but “blah, blah, blah”. Shipping is a problem with them regardless.

I placed an order on November 11th, the items were on back order and supposed to ship by November 24th.They did not in fact ship until December 9th.Company did not inform in any way re: this delay in availability as many other companies will do.Only after calling 3 times did I discover when it actually shipped.I have called and emailed several times since then because I have YET to receive any merchandise.This last call I was told it was taking around 35 (!!) days for shipments to get to people.Told them I would give it one more week to show up but if it didn’t I would be calling back to request a refund to my credit card.She said she noted that on my account, so for now I guess I still play the waiting game.I too have serious doubts about ever shopping here again, it’s been one of the single most aggravating purchase experiences of my life.And I personally thought they were a bit pricey to begin with, so it’s really not worth all this no matter how cute some of their stuff is :-(

I’m so upset with this whole ordeal, I too placed an order with simplybe.com for the Mica Shoulder pad blazer on the 6th of January, I get an email on the 7th saying it has been shipped, here it is 1/28/11 still no blazer, I called on 1/24/11 I was told that it can take anywhere between 14-30 days for arrival, what kind of nonsense is that? I have ordered items from asos round the same time and have received those already, so my question is why so long? I’ve been stalking this blazer for so long I finally decide to get it to do a review on my new blog site along with some other stuff I recently received but sadly I would have to inform my blog readers about this whole shipping ordeal so they can be aware b 4 even thinking about ordering from them especially if you need any of there products for an event, I wish someone wouldve gave me a heads up before I ordered.

I had a similar problem with my purchase from SimplyBe. Their clothes are really cute, and I got a great deal on the Joe Brown dress I ordered for my sisters 10th anniversary party. I ordered on 12/21 thinking that was enough time for it to get to me by the party on 1/15. I didn’t receive the dress until February 5th. I sent e-mails with no response (one even said it couldn’t be delivered), and when I called the SimplyBe representative mentioned the airport security. Which, I understood. Okay. Nothing they could do about that. However, when I opened my dress, I was disgusted by the fact that there was CAT HAIR all over it. It was sealed in a plastic bag, with the tags so I assumed it was brand new. Don’t get me wrong, I love cats. I have 2 of my own. But what if I was allergic to them?!

If you want to return, be prepared for a very long time to be credited back. I sent a return back and it was received by their Indiana facility on 3/21 – then on 3/25 it states it is in transit to the UK. Nowhere on my return slip did it state that I had to wait for the return to get to the U.K. before I would be refunded. All the return slip stated was that there would be an amount deducted for shipping. I’ve called customer service twice now and have gotten nowhere. I advised them that I was going to file a dispute with my bank and the Cust. Service Supervisor said that if I do that, then my return would take even longer. Also, the first phone call to them, they stated it would take 21 days for the return – now they are stating 21 BUSINESS DAYS – that’s a crock in my book. Ironically, it only took them 1 week to ship me my dress (that I returned) from the U.K. to the U.S. My personal advice ladies is to stay far away from this company. I would look elsewhere on the www to find similar clothing!

Well I was looking at their catalog and their prices are really high!!! I mean, you can find the same items for at least $20-$30 cheaper at other retailers here in the US. Has anyone else noticed the disparities in price? I mean a tunic cost $79???? On what planet? And after reading all these horror stories (I mean it was not ONE decent shipping experience), I def won’t be shopping there. I will just use their catalog to get style inspirations and shop at US stores where I will get TRACKING INFORMATION (and not at an additional fee) and can get prompt returns.

This is just ridiculous! What company doesn’t add tracking info to their packages ESPECIALLY when its coming from so far. And so if the package never shows up??? Then what? I am out of money?

I am definitely going to pass on the word.

Wow, I’m so glad I read this. I was a couple of days away from ordering a dress from Simply Be, but after reading the comments here, no way! Not one decent experience, and worse, not one of the U.S. customers here got any respect from the company after repeated calls? sounds like they want your money but could care less whether you get what you pay for. Ugh.

I ordered a couple sweaters and a pair of pants from SimplyBe about a week and a half ago and they arrived today. Nice items, great fit on the pants (which are difficult for me to find given my measurements). Price is a little high given the quality (the pants I ordered are not lined). It was a little scary that they didn’t offer tracking, but everything arrived as promised, well within the 10-business days. Even so, I probably won’t order from them again. All these stories make me feel like I dodged a bullet, so I’ll quit while I’m ahead.

I had a similar incident with Roaman’s, Womanwithin and Onestopplus!!! After being assured for the fourth time my items were on the way! And promised super fast shipping for free I never got them!! I did not pay for them but still had purchased other items to go with the clothes (shoes, earrings)! I will never do business with them again!!!! I am not a size four and am stationed in Korea, it is very hard to find plus size clothing here!!!!!!! I hope no one else has issues like this!!!!!

I am in the midst of a nightmare with SimplyBe USA. Between Customs fees – non-functioning fax number at simply be for customs refunds – beligerent customer service reps…and now going into month 2 of this nonsense…I will NOT SHOP with SimplyBe USA ever again. If they were to open a US Distribution facilty and get all the various customer service call centers on ONE page….I may consider it – but all those I’ve told how wonderful their clothes offerings are will be getting retractions from me immediately.

I haven’t ordered from this store as I can’t figure out if they ship to Canada or not. However, I find that some of the comments here can be said about a site I frequent from the UK: Brastop.com. They have affordable, big name and big size bras.

I think there was a change with Royal Mail in that they no longer provide tracking numbers (or that service for an additional fee) for shipping. So now, all orders are sent with tracking. The first order I had with them was lost in the mail. Spent 3 weeks arguing with them on the phone and email to get a refund. Instead they sent (with no warning) replacements.

Not justifying their (lack of) response, but it does seem to be a feature of some of the UK sites (Brastop, Evans, etc.)

I’ve shopped with them for the last time. My first order came to the post office and I had to pay $65 in customs for them to give it to me. I spoke to someone on the phone and she said that they reimburse it. I sent a copy of the receipt in with an item that I returned and was never reimbursed. Now I cannot find the receipt to try again through the fax. I don’t have a fax, so that should be a pain, too. Worse still, I placed another order thinking the customs thing last time was just a fluke because someone on the phone at simply be acted like it doesn’t happen all that often. Now, I just received another package that I have to drive to the post office to pick up and this time the customs will be $41. Simply be needs to stop this nonsense and send everything from the US. I’m a busy professional and I do not have time to be running to the post office and then jumping through hoops to get my customs money back. It’s unfortunate because I like their clothes, but it is just not worth the hassle!

I ordered once from Simply Be. It took a long time to get my order. Over 3 weeks, as best I can recall.

One thing I don’t know if you know, orders are shipped from England. Which might explain the shipping time.

One thing that pisses me off about them is they said their stupid catalogs to my ship to address, my work. I don’t want junk mail coming to my work. They should ask first.

I ordered a dress that was backordered (didn’t know it was until after I placed the order). When I finally got an email that it shipped, it took forever to get to me, BUT it did show up.
I am debating if I’ll ever shop with them though b/c their website is either buggy as hell or run by a bunch of people who have NO idea what they’re doing.
I’ve been trying to buy a dress that is on sale. It’s either in stock or out of stock in my size. I even wait 2 days to make sure it still says In Stock for my size. I order it and BAM within an hour I get an email saying that the order was cancelled and no other explanation.
And then, I have to email the website once again to get the refund!! Such a pain in the ass.

Just a warning clothing not cheep but made cheeply. Made my first purchase with simply bee it was a 2 piece bathing suit with a dress cover up. I purchased in May/June with intent on wearing in Aug on a family trip to Florida well on the first day of wearing it the plastic clip cracked in half sending me off to purchase a new bathing suit. When I returned from trip I called immediatly and was advised that it could not be returned because it was pasted 30 days I refused a replacement because the same thing would have happened. I was appauled at that response & in the same response was offered a 20% discount on future purchase. Really do they think I would be a return customer. Not ! I even sent a email questioning that response and they haven’t even answered email. Not a very “customer friendly” company

I ordered two items from Simply Be a month ago and have yet to receive them. I won’t be ordering from them again. The only response I received was that once it’s transferred to the USPS they have no control or way to track. I’m pretty sure that’s not true and that there are other shipping methods available. I also hate to think how horrible the return shipping process is going to be if something doesn’t fit. I’m very disappointed.

I wish I had read all of the post before ordering. I have had all the same issues. Ordered one dress and after ordering it got an email that said it wasnt available. In the same order another dress came up as back ordered (another email).

I think both of those issues should be addressed BEFORE you place your final order (i.e. the have your credit card information). The one item (from that same order) came after several weeks and looked nothing like the picture.

Unfortunatly I got excited about the unique plus size clothing and a 50% off email and ordered three more items. Now waiting and waiting.

Wanted to have all items to try on before I did any returns. After reading all of these reviews I wonder if it will be worth the time to even bother returning….although, none of the items I ordered were inexpensive.

Also, as with other postings, can not beleive that there is no way to track my packages. How can that be? Basically I will never order from this company again without checking reviews to see if their customer service has improved!

Simply Be has GOT to be the worst company ever. I ordered two dresses in December during the 50% off sale and have yet to receive them as of 1/13. I have called several times only to have the customer service people basically laugh at me when I inquired why my purchases had not arrived yet. I’m dying to know what the heck the clothes really look like. Also, buyers should be aware of possible customs charges to the USA- who knew! I thought the company was “Simply Be USA”.. what the heck happened to THAT?! Never shop here.

Really wish I had taken the time to do the research….. Ordered items with plenty of time to receive them…. zzzzzzz still waiting…. There is no way to track my shipment, and it is apparently lost at my local post office…… where I owe $50 in customs fees to pick up my stuff.

I was really excited and now I am just frustrated.
I wouldn’t recommend ordering anything from this company

WOW. I wished I would of read of these reviews before placing my order. I ordered a jumpsuit (that I LOVED on the website) & it was shipped off on the 20th so I should be expecting it around the 2nd week of May…I just hope I get it now.
I’m kinda scared after reading all of the bad reviews…
And what this that I’m reading everyone talking about custom fees? So my order won’t be delivered to my door like any other online order? and I have to pay to get what should already be mine??

This company is the worst after you’ve paid for your items. I placed an order and a few two weeks of not getting it and not hearing anything from the company I called and was initially told, quite rudely, that my credit card company hadn’t authorized the charges. When I called Amex they said that wasn’t true at all. Then when I called Simply Be back I was told because of a system glitch that my order was held in suspense. After I finally got my items one thing fit, one item was back ordered and eventually cancelled and the last item was too big. I think instead of returning the item that doesn’t fit I’ll have it altered. The returns don’t seem worth the hassle. They have really cute stuff but I’ll NEVER order from them again. EVER. Stick with Asos.

I think their customer service IS on the same page… they are all told to lie! My order was “released for shipment” for quite some time but never showed that it was shipped. I called several times and was told each time there was a system error, system glitch, etc. that caused the delay of shipping and then the delay of updating the website when my package shipped. So I got a notification in my mailbox that I owe $47 for customs fees. I’ll be going to the post office tomorrow and telling them they can RETURN TO SENDER. As much as I paid for the clothing, I refuse to pay that much just to be able to have them. I buy things for my little boy from Next Direct which is also based in England, and I never experiencced this mess with them! No customs fees and no headaches! I should have done some research on this company! I won’t be shopping there again!

I wish I had came here first before I placed my order. I also wished that they mention on their site that there is no way of tracking the package. I’ll definitely stick with ASOS.com <3 service and shipping from ASOS.com is always excellent and acceptable in my perspective.

I shop simply be often and i’ve never had a problem. Their items are coming from A DIFFERENT FREAKING COUNTRY. if you are not prepared to wait up to three weeks than buy elsewhere…or maybe plan a little more in advance! Great items and superb quality!

Here’s what happened.

I placed two separate orders. They shipped them together and because they did so, I received a customs fee over $49. I called their customer service and was told that once the charge was paid, to fax in the receipt and a check for reimbursement will be issued within 3-5 days.

I faxed in this receipt and called to make sure it was received, which it was. I was then told I would have a check issued to me in 3-5 weeks.

I want to point something very important out as I do not think I will be receiving a reimbursement check. Their main “About Us” page clearly states “In the unlikely event that you incur customs duties, just contact our call center who will be happy to arrange a refund.” If you go into the user agreement, it states, “Please note that U.S. import law may impose duties and/or fees for certain shipments. These duties and fees are not included in the price of the order and, should they be levied, are the responsibility of our customers.” That statement negates responsibility of the company to issue a refund because nothing is mentioned in their terms and conditions about their customs refund policy, just that it will be the responsibility of the consumer.

Anyone actually get a customs refund check from them? I have cancelled an order I had with them and am nervous about an order I placed that I could not cancel that I will get a huge customs fee for.

I did get a check for the customs fee, it took about 5 weeks. The clothes are cute and I have not had issues with any other orders. I have been getting my orders in less than two weeks, depending on when I have ordered, some one week flat. Yes it’s being mailed from the UK, so I understand the time frame, but do believe they should have tracking.

Quality is hit or miss, that’s my biggest issue right now. Cute stuff, I just don’t know how long lasting it will be.

I have ordered from them 3 times in the past 2 months.

The first time, I placed an order on 7/27, which was released for shipment about 5 days later then received the first week of August! After being thrilled with my purchase I ordered a few more things on 9/5. It was released for shipping only a few days later, but it’s 9/19 and I have not received my items. I ordered a pair of boots on Friday 9/14 (incorrectly believing that my shipment would arrive the next day, at latest) and it was released today for shipment.

Based on my first experience, I erroneously believed that I could receive my purchases within 2 weeks of placing an order. I understand that these items are being shipped across the Atlantic, but having purchased several gifts from companies based in the UK I’ve never experienced such erratic practices. Additionally, they’ve always been sent via Fedex or UPS so there was a way to track them.

I absolutely adore Simply Be and unequivocally prefer them to any other plus size company. However, these shipment issues have given me serious pause.

I am not sure why simply be cannot track shipments, I have received shipments from U.K and these could be traced by parcel post, unless they are not getting a tracking number by postal service. Are they just dropping shipments off with no receipts.

One more thing I work as a manufacturers rep delivering sporting equipment from U.S. all over Europe, items can be traced parcel post if they are being shipped correctly, we have received returns from our distributors in the U.K. and they used parcel post with tracking numbers.

SimplyBe have absolutely appalling customer service. Snarky and nasty phone reps and take no responsibility for their couriers and deliveries.

I bought a jacket.. quite an expensive one and both pockets ripped out within a week. They did not want a return, and were patronizing.

They are going to bomb in the U.S… I cannot expect Americans will put up with that kind of customer service mistreatment.

I ordered a jumpsuit on Oct 18 and today is Nov 11 and I still have not received it. I called customer service twice & they were extremely rude! Told me it takes 7-10 BUSINESS days, today is day 14. Today told me that delay is due to hurricane. Told them it was sad to lie and use the hurricane as an excuse when I have had a package shipped from China that I received in 5 days as well as my orders from 3 other stores. Told me now I have to wait until next Tues Nov 13 to get a refund. Pissed

I have ordered several times from Simply Be since Spring 2012. My two sundresses arrived in less than two weeks, were well made, and always bring compliments. Several items were ordered in Fall. They were delivered in a timely fashion, I think, but I didn’t need them by a specific date. The colors were beautiful, but certain fabrics were a bit weird (padded and felt like foam rubber). I kept a few garments and returned the rest. No problems with returns! In fact, I received a call from a representative, regarding reissuing a credit from Spring. I would not hesitate to order from this company, based on my prior experiences with them. As with any mail order retailer, try to order well in advance of when you may actually wear the items.

I ordered from Simply Be for the first time this month (12/2012). I didn’t check the shipping policies/procedures beforehand as I wasn’t in a rush to receive the item. However, after Googling for shipping info I was directed to this site and became increasingly agitated after reading so many horror stories. I was distressed at the possibility of paying unknown customs duties, at never receiving the item, or having issues returning an item that didn’t meet my expectations.

I ordered on Mon., Dec. 10th in the evening around 7PM. I received an email on Thurs., Dec. 13th telling me the item had shipped. I didn’t expect it to arrive before Christmas, but again, I didn’t need it right away. This morning (Tues., Dec. 25th) I looked outside and sitting on the porch was a package. I knew it had to be from SimplyBe since we hadn’t ordered anything else recently. I can’t believe I didn’t have to pay any customs fees. I don’t know who delivered it. We were at home all day and night yesterday, so if it was FedEx or UPS they sure didn’t ring the bell. And our mail was delivered earlier in the day and again there was nothing on the porch yesterday.

So, after all the dread and fear I must say I’m impressed. It hasn’t been 10 business days and I’ve already received my package. It’s a striped sweater poncho I’d been craving for several weeks. I got it on extreme discount (was $69, but got it for $41 on sale and used a coupon that gave me 30% off AND free shipping!). My total was like $37 and change. The material is soft, the sweater appears to be of good quality. I’ll have to wait and see how it launders (hand wash only). But I am willing to give them another chance since they provided good shipping on this first purchase.

So It is December 25, 2012. I ordered from Simply Be for the on the 12th of December. I recieved an email that stated that part of my order (one item out of 4) was backordered. The rest of the order shipped on the 17th of December. I still do not have my order today. I have contacted customer service via email since we are in the middle of a holiday. I will be calling to see what the hold up is. I was so excited about Simply Be order. Now I am simply disapointed. You would think after 2011′s complaints there would be improvements but I guess not.

One thing I recently noticed was that, if you check your order on an iPhone, you will see that all of your orders will say “delivered” — yikes! It is a glitch, though. I have ordered again from Simply Be (this month) and was pleased.

We are the new hot commodity – the plus size dollars. Out of 40 comments, I counted less than a handful of positive ones. WE need to stop supporting companies with our hard earned NOT INDUSTRY RESPECTED dollar. Wr also need to tell everyone else we know to not support them. Then we need huge and loud blog posts saying the same. Then we need a local news station to cover theor mishandling of out funds (esp for the people who had to pau customs fees – WHO can afford that in this day and age?!??!) Then and only then will we see positive results.

Sidebar: I think too many plus size bloggers are getting sent stuff for free and are giving rave reviews and telling us to go and support these brands like simple be. That’s alarming as well!!

Lastly, the quality doesn’t even support the headache. In about 98% of the posts here, the quality of clothes was lacking.

Come on ladies Simply be may be bad but WE have to do better!!!

Shoot invest in a sewing machine and make your own clothes before suffering through this mess!!!

I am grateful to all you ladies who put your experiences online. You just saved me going through the same. I was going to spend $400 in pants. Now im not going to buy from here. I am in Canada and find it difficult to find pants that fit me. Anyone have suggestions on where to get good pants that fit big legged ladies?

I read the reviews on this site and other sites after I had already made a purchase. I was definitely worried that I was about to undergo a nightmare of a situation. However, I have to say that my experience wasn’t bad at all. The communication isn’t the best, i.e. vague shipping information. However, I received my order in full with no customs issues in about 3 weeks. I understand shipping from overseas can be different, so I didn’t consider the shipping time to be a big deal. The clothes were very cute and decent quality for the (sale) price. I sort of feel like I dodged a bullet. However if I had not read the reviews, I would have rated my experience as positive one. I will give SimplyBe the benefit of the doubt and order from them in the future if there is a great item that I must have. I don’t think I will be placing large orders, though, just in case.

wow, two years since the original article and this stuff is still happening with them! Here’s my story:

I made a purchase on Cyber Monday and a couple of hours later I had buyers remorse. I contacted their customer service to see if they could cancel the order and I was told that, because it was shipping from the UK, once you ordered, you can’t cancel. They did, however, tell me that when the package arrived, I could contact them and they’d issue me a return label that I would not have to pay for. I appreciated that.

I knew it would take awhile for the package to get to me and it did. I returned it immediately and it arrived at their US office or whatever on December 18th. They offer tracking, but its of no use because once its out of the US, you have no idea what’s going on!

About three weeks later I called to see where my refund was and I was told it wouldn’t be refunded until everything reached the UK office. Not sure how long that will take. Its over 5 WEEKS since my return arrived at the US office and still no word of my refund!

Its a shame — they seem to have great stuff, but its just not worth all the hassle. I definitely second the accolades for ASOS. I’ve had MUCH better experiences with them.

There is no where on their website mentioning what service they use to ship.

There is also no where on their website where they mention from where the items are shipped.

I ordered some dresses on 1-31. Then turned around and ordered a couple of bras on 2-4. Now that I know where they’re coming from and who the carrier is, I won’t be waiting up on USPS. I had a package coming from Texas to Alabama. USPS decided that it needed a trip to San Francisco.

Sue (#52), Simply Be doesn’t even ship to Canada. Or at least they didn’t when I checked them out. If Additionelle, Penningtons and Reitmans doesn’t work, try Lane Bryant out of the states. Or if you are looking for a younger look – Torrid. But Torrid items are a little flimsy.

If you want from the UK: Evans and Asos are good options.

Depending on your age: Additionelle, Penningtons, Voluptuous, Reitmans and Laura.

If those don’t work from the states: Lane Bryant or Torrid (though they are more junior plus)

From the UK: Evans or Asos.
