Harrods Plus-Size Department Update

By , About.com GuideSeptember 5, 2010

Follow me on:

Travelers and U.K. residents alike will be thrilled to find out that Harrods has simply relocated their plus-size department, not removed it altogether. We can breathe a sigh of relief, thanks to a reader named "H" who has a visit planned to London. She quotes from the email she received from Harrods:

"I would like to inform you that the Plus Collections department has relocated to a new area adjacent to the Champagne Bar on the first floor. The department continues to stock Marina Rinaldi, Elena Miro, Basler and MYBC.

If you are planning a visit to the store, please let me know if you wish for an appointment to be booked with an associate in Plus Collections, as I can arrange for them to prepare some suggestions prior to your arrival and spend some time showing you the current collections."

I suppose that it looks like Harrods simply decided to drop Anna Scholz and move the location of the department? It sounds pared down, so I think the next step is to find Anna Scholz and ask her to comment!

I don’t think this is honestly the case. All plus size buyers were re-assigned to other departments. Maybe they just got a lot of back lash & are reevaluating – but we’ll see what Anna has to say.

Or maybe they have a lot of inventory left & are promoting it to people who write, but aren’t buying anymore. Interesting none the less.

Oooh, Jessica, it sounds like you are an insider! I am interested in Anna’s opinion and will update when it comes through. It could very well be spin for customers, as you noted, or Harrods reps could have changed their minds.

Browsing the plus-size sections at various stores in our mall all of which located in the women, girls, miss clothing section-
except at one store-it was located away from the other women clothing- upstairs -between baby clothes and cooking utensils.
It was offensive.

So was wondering:
Putting the plus-size near a champagne bar? would that be sweet drinks-food? What else is on the first floor, maybe chocolate candies, cook ware?Did they remove the plus-size fashions away from the petite, misses, women clothing?
If so, it doesn’t seem right and a few store do this.

Hello All -
The actual plus size department in Harrods has closed! They have dropped our anna scholz collection ( after 12 years of very successful trading :( ) and several others,
BUT they have relocated their plus size concessions Marina Rinaldi , Elena Miro and Basler whom they are still contracted to.
I wonder for how long these will stay in store ( until the contracts expire ?) and you cant call this a plus department anymore! Also MYBC only sells garments up to a size UK20.
Unfortunately choice is now extremely limited and is nothing like the fabulous and varied department they used to have.
Of course I am personally disappointed but also annoyed that the choices for my customers have yet again been limited and instead of moving ahead in making women above a size 12 feel equal we have taken a step back again.
Regards

Anna Scholz

Thank you for your response, Anna! I will make sure that this gets highlighted on the blog. I wasn’t sure if I had the best email to contact you, but now I do!

Many thanks for clearing up this mystery. Many of us are disappointed about Anna Scholz being removed from Harrods, but your new Berlin store looks fabulous and was a tremendous success. I have a feeling Harrods will be back.
