Update: The plus department in Harrods has been moved, not removed!
I can't believe it. Here I was, fawning over extended sizing at Saks, and then I find out that our plus-size cousins in Britain are weeping. Can you believe that upscale London department store, Harrods, dropped their plus-size department? That's why it's essential that we support department stores with sizable plus sections, so that this doesn't happen! I predict Harrods will bring their plus department back within a year, though, when they crunch the numbers and see how much they lost.
I found out about this sad tidbit via Anna Scholz, who blogged:
"It is a sad day indeed. Harrods was the last upscale department store in London to carry designer plus-size womenswear of a quality and calibre that many curvy women had come to rely on.
It's sad for Anna Scholz as a company, of course. We have enjoyed doing business with Harrods for the past 12 years. Our collections have always sold extremely well there too. There obviously is a huge demand. So who decided to close the doors to many curvy shoppers?"
Are you as shocked as I am?

Three Dots, one of the best t-shirt companies, just launched their plus size clothing line for Fall called “Red Dot Curve” and it is carried on Zappos.com right now. It’s the same quality and styling as Three Dots, and though they’re basic right now, they have cardigans and dresses coming in the next few months!
I just launched a new website for cheap and trendy plus size fashions. Check it out at http://www.cravedclothing.com!
I can’t beleive this, what is wrong with people with the plus size demand at an all time high ( 1/3 of women wearing a size 18).
We do have a few positives going on though with Marc jacob creating a new plus size line and Evan in UK launching a new plus size teens line seem they are taking notice of the current stats 3.3 billion pound being spent on plus size clothing.
I know, Kate! It’s insane. Surely someone must have crunched the numbers, but it doesn’t make sense.
That is a shame. I live in a small town in a rural area of Pennsylvania in the US, & unfortunately I’ve had to resort to internet & catalog shopping only. The only place in my area to find cute or even slightly trendy plus size pieces at all is Fashion Bug, or a 2-hour trip to Lane Bryant (which I’m iffy about at the moment anyway). Most women in my boat end up shopping (yikes!!) Wal-Mart for their necessities … we won;t even discuss nice pieces!
I don’t know about Harrods but for a fact my paycheck can’t handle Saks. I hover around The Avenue, Ashley Stewart, and maybe Lane Bryant.
Even when I was wearing a realatively small size 7 I tried to sew my own clothes.we girls usually get toghether and went shopping during a weekend to nice high quality stores. We already had studied the fashion trends and what we needed and saved suficient money for this trip.
We wre university students and money was short. We kept this for years .After college I got togheter with my sisters and nieces.Sometimes when I am in a rush I will buy fron the racks dut once you get to have custume made clothes is very difficult to be happy with anything else.I do use catalogs to buy lingerie mostly but we had even learned to sew this.A nice get toghether with sewing crocheting and kntting is a very rewarding and productive party.
Sewing parties! Love them. I agree that when you start making custom clothes, it’s difficult to like off-the-rack items. I have actually toyed with making my own lingerie, but I don’t have a serger.
GOOD NEWS! Harrod’s has a plus-size department! I emailed Harrod’s and received the following message in return:
Dear Ms. D—-
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
I would like to inform you that the Plus Collections department has relocated to a new area adjacent to the Champagne Bar on the first floor. The department continues to stock Marina Rinaldi, Elena Miro, Basler and MYBC.
If you are planning a visit to the store, please let me know if you wish for an appointment to be booked with an associate in Plus Collections, as I can arrange for them to prepare some suggestions prior to your arrival and spend some time showing you the current collections.
In the meantime, if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me
Kindest regards
