"Plus-Size" Whitney Thompson Wins ANTM!

What's your take on plus-size model Whitney's win on America's Next Model? I'm so happy to see someone--anyone!--who's a little larger, a little curvier, and equally as gorgeous as the models who have come before her on ANTM cycles. Whitney recently made her way onto the cover of Seventeen and showed off her shape in a bikini photoshoot. I would kill for skin like hers, and if nothing else, she's a great example of a healthy, athletic shape.

But again we end up debating this little point: is she really plus-sized? Comments appreciated.

Yes Whitney is clearly plus-sized, she appears to be a size 12. She is not athletic but is “healthy”. If she where to balloon to, let’s say, a size 20 she may begin to look unhealthy and obese.

By the average woman;’s standards, I believe she is a carrying extra weight but it looks very healthy on her and she carries it well.

I would not call Whitney Plus sized. It is so refreshing to see a model that does not look like a skin covered skeleton. Whitney looks healthy and she is beautiful. Women of America this is how you should look.

In the modeling world, nothing is realistic. So, she is a normal looking, real life example of a beautiful woman. Modeling needs a bit of fantasy so we’re never gonna see ANTM be a size 20 and win…but this is a start and I’m sure she has a BMI over 18, and I bet she eats regularly and exercises. Her features are amazing. She is going to have a great career. I liked her better as a brunette as she was on the first episode. Why do they always have to resort to Anna Nicole bottle bleach for sexiness? BASTA!!
Way to go Whitney. With diabetes and insulin resistance on the rise, I hope she makes her platform “health, exercise and good lifestyle habits”….the teens and women in America need this message!

I think if you look at it from the fashion industry perspective she is plus size/full-figure. For weeks I’ve been hearing she’s a size 8. The recent spread had a quote saying size 14. Regardless of her number size we all know she’s not the typical fashion/runway model. She’s beautiful and I’m happy for her. I look forward to seeing her visits in Cycle 11. :)

Have you all bought into this garbage the media feeds you. Whitney is better than “normal” or average. She is NOT plus-sized. For her height, a 12 is TINY. Get real, ladies…

I do not think she is plus-sized, but I have never liked the way clothes look on models that are a size 20. Too many bulges are not a flattering look in clothing. I do think she is fabulous, and want to see a lot more models with her body type. Healthy, strong and beautiful, what more could I ask for my 16 year old daughter to strive towards, appearance-wise!

I maintain that smoothness is important, but anyone can achieve it with the right fabrics, a little boost from shapewear, and the right attitude. Whitney does seem ample next to other models, and that’s what makes me smile!

Whitney’s size is perfect for her. She is hardly a plus size. Plus sizes end with a W (for Women’s size category) and are not the same as a similar numbered size that isn’t a plus size. A 14W, for example, is the same as a misses 18. Take a look at the size charts if you don’t believe me.

The big problem is finding clothes in those double digit sizes that aren’t plus sizes. Such clothes are almost impossible to find. At times, as a size 10 to 12 person, I wish I were fat, simply because there are more choices for overweight people than there are for normally chubby folks like myself.

She is a beautiful women and certainly not the industry standard of a ’straight’ size model, however…at a size 12 she is NOT Plus Size. Most plus size apparel is sized 14w-24w….if she was walking into a photo shoot for plus size apparel most (if not all) of the clothing would have to be pinned on her to make it look like it fit…it would just be too big.

Whitney is very pretty, but in no way does she seem like she is plus size. If you can still buy clothes in the missy section, you’re not a plus-size in my book. The average American woman is a size 14 and up. so I guess I should be happy that there is someone closer to the average woman’s size than to someone like Posh Spice/Victoria Beckham. Heck, Tyra Banks looks plus-sized if Whitney is the scale.

I think that Whitney is absolutely gorgeous, and her body is as well. She is a good size for her height. I will never be the girl who bashes “skin and bones” girls, because I used to be one. However I do think that girls who are in shape, healthy, etc look much better than someone who’s hip bones are protruding through their size 00 jeans.
She shows that it is not shameful to carry weight, and she shows it well. I stand at 5′10, and used to weigh in at 129 lbs. I wore a size 4, mainly because I do carry muscle on my frame. Over the years, metabolism has caught up with me (lol). While I do work out regularly, I am not willing to do it twice daily, every day. Nor am I willing to count calories for a living. I now stand the same height as mentioned before, and weigh in at 162 lbs. I look and feel the same as I did previously, but am in a size 8. Sometimes even a size 10 fits my body. Do I feel plus sized? Absolutely not.
